I am not joking when I say I have been waiting for this book for what feels like forever. Kym could have announced it a week ago and I would have been clamoring for it. Kym is EASILY one of my all-time favorite authors ever. I’ve read her Immortals of New Orleans series (SO FREAKING AMAZING) and now she is branching out to Contemporary with the Club Altura series.
So I read “Carnal Risk” and already was in love with Lars. I didn’t even know I could love him more, but then I read Wicked Rush and I am just over the top ready to marry this fictional character. I know this series is new but I think Lars really embodies the Club Altura vibe.
For those who don’t know, Club Altura is a club that a group of people belong to. Some work together, others do not. But its a group that really lives life, by taking risks, which includes mountain climbing, rock climbing, sky diving, surfing, and also exploring their sexual desires. I normally do not go for erotica, but Kym Grosso just gets it so right. I think its because the characters are actively involved and want to be involved. They are exploring their desires but its not ever done in a crass way.
Lars rescues Braelynn from bullets on the beach, and he can’t stop thinking about her. Braelynn can’t stop thinking about Lars either but she pushes him away in an effort to keep him safe. The web that Braelynn is tangled up in is heartbreaking. She’s extremely intelligent but she is definitely not a spy.
Months pass and Lars finds Braelynn at a charity event that he is attending. The chemistry between them is intense. Initially, I think Lars just wants to play with Braelynn a bit and find out her secret. But once he realizes how far in over her head that she is, his true feelings come out.
There were some aspects of this book I didn’t love, and it was only because I never want anything bad to happen to the characters. With that said, the bad things the characters do experience make sense and are right for the story to advance. So even though some parts made me well up with tears, I also understand why they had to happen.
Would I recommend this book? Obviously. This is Kym Grosso and she is an amazing writer. I would highly recommend this book and entire series.
