Cade Wesley has everything he could ever want.

His own thriving bar.

A house on the beach.

Money in his bank account.

His pick of women whenever he wants.

But he’s been so busy lately that he hasn’t had a warm body in his bed in far too long. All that is about to change.

When Nora Jensen walks into Cade’s Tavern, it’s lust at first sight.

In town on business with the freedom to cut loose, why shouldn’t she take a chance on the handsome bartender and indulge in her first ever one-night stand?

Of course, things are never quite that easy…

Goodreads: http://bit.ly/2rn5bNn

Are you looking for a good, juicy summer read? Then this is definitely the book you want to take to the beach with you (or the lake, couch, bed, etc). I enjoyed this book a lot and I think one of the main reasons was the fast pace.

Our story starts with Nora, a legal assistant, taking an impromptu trip to Miami for work. There, she meets Cade, and from there, business and pleasure mix immediately.

I liked Nora’s character a lot. I related to Nora and I think a lot of other women would too. She’s working hard, she’s trying to date, she’s responsible. But inside, there is passion. A fire, if you will. Nora hasn’t really found anyone that sort of pulls her out of her shell. But Cade does, almost seamlessly.

Cade’s character is a bit of a workaholic combined with a surfer boy. One aspect I really loved about him was how he was so relaxed about certain things. Nora, at one point, is nervous because when they first meet, they don’t realize that they’ll end up working together in some capacity. But Cade doesn’t see the big deal and he doesn’t let Nora go crazy with her panic. I think for any couple, regardless of what level they’re at, needs that balance. So I appreciated seeing that with these two.

The sex scenes in this book are some of the best I’ve read, to be totally honest. One factor I enjoyed was how even though the scenes were really sexy, they also stayed sweet and sincere. I feel like that can be a hard balance sometimes and this author nailed it.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I’m excited to see what happens with Cade’s brothers in the future books, and to hopefully see more of Nora and Cade too.

Every Last Lie by Mary Kubica

EveryLastLie

Every Last Lie by Mary Kubica

New York Times bestselling author of THE GOOD GIRL Mary Kubica is back with another exhilarating thriller as a widow’s pursuit of the truth leads her to the darkest corners of the psyche.

Clara Solberg’s world shatters when her husband and their four-year-old daughter are in a car crash, killing Nick while Maisie is remarkably unharmed. The crash is ruled an accident…until the coming days, when Maisie starts having night terrors that make Clara question what really happened on that fateful afternoon.

Tormented by grief and her obsession that Nick’s death was far more than just an accident, Clara is plunged into a desperate hunt for the truth. Who would have wanted Nick dead? And, more important, why? Clara will stop at nothing to find out—and the truth is only the beginning of this twisted tale of secrets and deceit.

Told in the alternating perspectives of Clara’s investigation and Nick’s last months leading up to the crash, master of suspense Mary Kubica weaves her most chilling thriller to date—one that explores the dark recesses of a mind plagued by grief and shows that some secrets might be better left buried.

I’ve been on a bit of a psychological thriller kick lately. It’s the genre I naturally gravitate towards and this book honestly reminded me why I love the genre so much. This is a book that, although I’ve received an advanced copy, I will be buying a copy for my shelf. This is a book that every one who aspires to write should read.

Mary Kubica pulled me in immediately. Not with the mystery (which is what usually plagues me for hours on end), but with the emotion in this story. The way that I could physically see Clara and Nick, the stress, the pain, the heartbreak. Everything was so vivid; the home, the heat, the stress, the terror. You could physically feel it along with the characters. You could read, and then close your eyes for a moment and see these characters and just want to help them.

One aspect that stood out to me was the insomnia. Nick experiences it in his final months and Clara experiences it after his death. This author shows this to reader so incredibly well. Insomnia for days on end can make you feel like you’re losing your mind. Everything becomes fuzzy and enhanced at the same time. You lose track of things because you’re trying to catch a minute of rest and it just never comes.

Nick was a character that I thought I would hate. But as you see him throughout the story and his love for Clara was so unending, it felt like my heart was ripping apart. Sometimes, you can love someone too much. So much that you never want them to be unhappy or stressed for even a moment.

Clara is someone you want to run and help. I knew she wasn’t real, but in my heart, I kept wanting to find her and help her. The frustration and shame she felt was something I could relate to. You’re in a mess, you don’t really know the magnitude of the mess, and you’re just wading through the muck, trying to deal with it. But you can’t because you don’t know how to, and you don’t even know what exactly is happening.

This book is a masterpiece from beginning to end. I truly can’t recommend it enough.

Love Sex Music by Michelle A. Valentine

LoveSexMusicCover2

Love Sex Music by Michelle A. Valentine

Fame can disappear in an instant…

Fortune is a fleeting fantasy…

Laz Rawlings had them both, until he lost it all…

Laz, a former world-famous music producer screwed up everything thanks to his rock-n-roll lifestyle, but he’s been given an opportunity to prove his genius in the music industry wasn’t a fluke, and he’s hell-bent on not letting history repeat itself. But that’s proving difficult when the young singer he’s tasked with grooming has become the object of his every desire.

Life has been an uphill battle for Aundrea Newton, so when a sexy, tattooed stranger hand delivers her dream of a music career, she’s skeptical. Nothing ever comes easy, and she knows Laz has the power to crush both her career and her heart with his undeniable sex appeal and charismatic swagger.

When the line between mentor and student blurs, both begin to question what’s more important: Love, sex or the music.

**STANDALONE. No Cliffhanger**

LoveSexMusicTeaser

If you wanted to call Laz sex on a stick, that would be putting it lightly. From the moment we meet him, the reader already knows that Laz could probably get whatever he wanted, whenever he wants it. Knowing he’s struggling only makes him more appealing. Laz was on top of the worlds, but his addictions derailed him. Now, he’s trying to make his comeback.

Drea, on the other hand, has a little bit of all of us inside her. She doesn’t really see herself as others do, and because of that, she shies away from attention. Not wanting to be in the limelight like her sister, Candace. But when Laz spots Candace and Drea at a nightclub, everything changes.

There are a few things I really loved about this story. Laz and Drea are truly two characters that have had highs and lows in life. And not just on a superficial level, but like major life events. I, personally, enjoyed seeing them overcome those problems and work through it. Another factor that I appreciated was how Laz and Drea opened up to each other. I hope this isn’t construed as a spoiler but I  dislike books where the characters are keeping secrets and then a huge blowup happens. Laz and Drea are open with each other for the entire book. I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed that.

I do wish this book had been a little longer. In the back half, there is a lot of action, which I loved. I appreciated all the places that the author took this story, I only wish it had a little more time to develop. I say this because in some parts, things felt a little rushed. It certainly wouldn’t be enough to deter me from recommending this book, I just wanted to know more.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. My favorite parts were honestly the more tender moments between Drea and Laz. I thought the author did a great job showing the reader why this couple was so attracted to each other and why they worked. It was a fantastic, quick read that should definitely be on your summer TBR list.

Synopsis

Nothing good comes after the third date.

See, date three is the crucial point when things get real, which is exactly why I bounce out the door, twiddling my fingers at whatever poor boy I’ve left behind. Because if I stick around, one of three things will happen: he’ll profess his undying love, he gets weird and stalky, or I’ll go crazy. Like, Sid and Nancy crazy. Like, chase-him-through-the-streets-begging-him-to-love-me crazy.

Seriously, it’s better for everyone this way.

So when I meet Bodie, I figure it’ll be the same as it ever was. It doesn’t matter that he doesn’t put a single string on me. Doesn’t matter that he’s funny and smart and jacked and can play my body like a grand piano. Because even though I’m built for love, love has only carved me up like a Christmas ham.

Resistance is something I can only hang on to for so long, and he has persistence in spades. But my heart isn’t as safe as I want to believe, and neither is his. And the second I ignore my cardinal rule is the second I stand to lose him forever.

About the Author

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life — a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can’t forget that. She’s also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She’s been a wife, though she’s certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She’s also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she’s been drinking whiskey.

From roots in Houston to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she’s not writing, she’s reading, sleeping, gaming, or designing graphics.

The Surgeon’s Cinderella by Susan Carlisle

The Surgeon's Cinderella

The Surgeon’s Cinderella by Susan Carlisle

From matchmaker…to perfect match?

Whitney Thomason prides herself on being able to find the perfect partner for anyone, but heart surgeon Tanner Locke is a real challenge! He wants to settle down, but he’s adamant there’ll be no falling in love…

When Whitney’s candidate falls through, it’s up to her to be the girlfriend Tanner needs for his weekend business getaway, but two days in close proximity proves torturous. They know giving in to temptation is a bad idea, but desire is more powerful than reason…

This is my first book from Susan Carlisle, but it won’t be my last. I really loved the story of Tanner and Whitney. I say the story of them, and not their story because while this is a love story, this book also encompasses a lot of the challenges that both characters have to face themselves.

Whitney runs a matchmaking business and Tanner becomes a client. Whitney knew who Tanner was in college, but he had no idea who she was. Now, in college, Whitney was heavier and has since lost weight. However, she still carries insecurities with her. For me, this was actually one of my favorite parts of Whitney’s character. I enjoyed seeing a real character. Whitney doesn’t dress that well, partly because I felt she was still hiding herself. Then we see that she’s very aware of what she eats and how the world saw her when she was heavier. I think we can all say we’re against body shaming and whatnot, but that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t still happen or that you don’t feel still feel the sting of people’s words. So to see a character dealing with that was an aspect that I appreciated.

Tanner was harder for me to like. He was actually somewhat harsh to Whitney on a few occasions. But I almost enjoyed that because as he gets to know Whitney more, you can see how he becomes more comfortable with himself in Whitney’s presence.

I hinted at this earlier but one thing that really stood out to me is that even while Whitney and Tanner are exploring their relationship, both have insecurities and issues they need to deal with on their own. Finding love can’t magically fix your problems and I appreciated that a book touched on that. Until Tanner and Whitney address their issues, they really can’t move forward. It’s sort of like that saying of you can’t love someone else until you love yourself.

I would definitely recommend this book. It was an easy read and the story flowed really well. I enjoyed that I got the goodness of a love story but that the author included issues that people do face everyday. It was an all-around great reading experience.

Don’t You Cry by Mary Kubica

Don't You Cry

Don’t You Cry by Mary Kubica

From the author of the New York Times bestseller everyone is talking about THE GOOD GIRL, Mary Kubica returns an electrifying and addictive tale of deceit and obsession.

In downtown Chicago, a young woman named Esther Vaughan disappears from her apartment without a trace. A haunting letter addressed to My Dearest is found among her possessions, leaving her friend and roommate Quinn Collins to wonder where Esther is and whether or not she’s the person Quinn thought she knew.

Meanwhile, in a small Michigan harbor town an hour outside Chicago, a mysterious woman appears in the quiet coffee shop where eighteen-year-old Alex Gallo works as a dishwasher. He is immediately drawn to her charm and beauty, but what starts as an innocent crush quickly spirals into something far more dark and sinister than he ever expected.

As Quinn searches for answers about Esther, and Alex is drawn further under the stranger’s spell, master of suspense Mary Kubica takes readers on a taut and twisted thrill ride that builds to a stunning conclusion and shows that no matter how fast and far we run, the past always catches up with us in the end.

I finished this book a week or so ago. I was needing a day to let this book settle in my system, but I still am just blown away by it and I really struggle to find the words for this story.

This book was an absolute mind-fuck. I was so completely twisted and turned around, trying to understand what was happening, what was real. I kept coming back to this book over and over. I’d read for a bit, put it down so I could get something done, and then I’d have my nose right back in it because even when I wasn’t reading, it consumed my thoughts.

Quinn and Esther are roommates and when Esther goes missing, it causes Quinn to question everything in her life. Quinn is described as being a bit of a slow learner, but I personally didn’t see that in her character at all. I felt more like she was a young girl just trying to find her way, and constantly being compared to her over-achiever sister. Which is how she stumbles on Esther, who happens to be looking for a roommate. The two have a great friendship and Esther sounds like the person you’d love to have as your roommate. But are things always what they seem?

When Esther goes missing, Quinn starts finding out more and more about Esther. About her last roommate, secret letters, shredded pictures and documents. Who is Esther Vaughan?

Meanwhile, in a small Michigan town, Alex stops a bewitching girl sitting in the diner he works at. A strange friendship is born between the two. Alex is incredibly smart, but taking care of his alcoholic father consumes his time and money. So while Alex did have a scholarship to a great college, he couldn’t take it because of his father. As a reader, your heart breaks for Alex. From the moment I read his character, I felt he deserved so much better than what he had.

Overall, I loved this story. It hooked me in from the first page. That said, I did feel like the ending was somewhat anti-climactic. I’m unsure if I like that or not, simply because the ending is such a shock to begin with. I’m torn on if I feel like I wanted more from the ending or if I’m happy the way things were. Either way, this story will leave your jaw hanging open at the end because the end is more insane than anything your mind could ever conjure up on it’s own.

Excerpt:

BODIE

She glanced behind me, twiddling her fingers, presumably at Jude and Phil. “So, you’re a twin, huh?”

I nodded and took a sip of my Maker’s as “Rock the Casbah” kicked off, and everyone around us started bouncing and dancing. “Since birth.”

She laughed. “What a win for the universe that there would be two of you.”

“Double your pleasure, double your fun.”

That caught her off guard, and her bottom lip slipped between her teeth as a flush rose on her cheeks.

Just like that, I had one objective, and it began and ended with her lips.

“Although I should tell you now,” I stepped closer, slipping into her space, and her eyes widened, pupils dilating as she leaned into me, “I don’t like to share.”

The tip of her pink tongue darted out to wet her lips, and her eyes were locked onto my mouth.

“Are you thinking about kissing me?” I asked.

She shook her head, though her eyes didn’t stray. “No, I’m thinking about what your dick looks like.”

I laughed from way down deep in my belly, shocked in the best way and turned on in the worst. And as the ocean of people waved around us, she rose up on her tiptoes, grabbed a handful of my T-shirt, and pulled.

I caught the smallest breath — a surprised, satisfied gasp — just before our lips met, and fireworks exploded in my brain. The kiss wasn’t soft or sweet; it was strong and determined, those red, red lips pressing against mine, opening to let me into her hot mouth, her tongue finding mine like she’d been looking for it her whole life.

The surprise left me as quickly as it had hit, and I leaned into her, my free arm winding around her back to press her body against mine. There wasn’t an inch of space between us, and all the while, our mouths worked each other’s in a long dance that left my heart chugging like a freight train in my chest.

She pulled away, her lips swollen and eyes lust-drunk as they met mine and held them while she kicked back her drink and grabbed my hand.

“Let’s get the fuck out of here,” she said.

And I smirked, breathless. “Your place or mine?”

If you guys follow my blog at all, you already know that Adriana Locke is one of my all-time favorites. She joins just a few others that I really fangirl over and just adore to the ends of the universe. Then recently she announced that she was joining forces with Kendall Ryan and a slew of other amazing authors for the “Imperfect Love Kindle World”.

I’ve long decided that novellas are the crack-cocaine of the book world. I challenge you to read just one and not be hooked. Well, “Battle of the Sexes” is no different. My only honest “bad” thing about this book is that I loved this couple so hard that I wanted more of them. That’s really the only negative for me.

Amity and Carver go way back, like way back to their middle school days. I don’t know if the author crawled into my head, but I related to Amity on such an intense level. One could probably use the caterpillar turning into a butterfly analogy, but I think its more accurate to say that Amity just grew into herself. It reminds me of when you grow up in a small town and maybe you feel like the odd egg, but then you go to somewhere larger, and you realize you aren’t weird and you find others who are like yourself.

While I loved Amity, I also couldn’t help but adore Carver. There is one scene that stands out to me. Obviously, he’s already a pretty wealthy and successful guy (I mean, based on the synopsis, you already know that). But then we start to see more of Carver and you realize that he is does pay attention and is a thoughtful and caring guy.

I know for a fact that I will end up re-reading this story. I had total instalove for these two and I can’t wait to check out the rest of the Imperfect Love Kindle World because if its anything like this story, I know I will end up loving them all.

A Sky Full of Stars by Samantha Chase

A Sky Full of Stars

A Sky Full of Stars by Samantha Chase

He’s always looked to the stars
Now she’s the brightest light in his universe.

Brilliant astrophysicist Dr. Owen Shaughnessy feels more connected to the cosmos than to people. He’s great with calculations, but when he leads a team of scientists to study a famous meteor shower, he doesn’t factor in his free-spirited artist assistant Brooke Matthews.

Polar opposites in personality, the friction between Owen and Brooke threatens to derail the project. But the beauty and mystery of the night sky draw them together—and she’s going to surprise him in ways the stars never could.

“A sweet romance that takes its time to court the reader: classic, thoughtful, and sometimes as lyrical as the stars.” —Kirkus Reviews

The stars are about to align in the newest Shaughnessy Brothers romance!

The Shaughnessy Brothers:
Made for Us (Book 1)
Love Walks In (Book 2)
Always My Girl (Book 3)
This Is Our Song (Book 4)
A Sky Full of Stars (Book 5)
Holiday Spice (Book 6)

I’m going to make a bold statement. This is my favorite book from Samantha Chase. “One More Kiss” in her newer series is a really close second, but this one has officially wormed its way into first place.

As a long time lover of the Shaughnessy Brothers Series, I’ve been anxiously waiting for Owen to get his story told. And it was so worth the wait. (As a disclaimer, you could read this book and not be familiar with the other books in the series. For maximum enjoyment, I would recommend having read at least one of the other earlier books).

Owen Shaughnessy is, for a lack of a better word, the genius in the family. He’s also a socially awkward genius. Or is he? One of my favorite themes in this book is the insecurity that we feel, or we perceive in ourselves. That might seem like an odd factor to enjoy but the reason I liked it was because we all feel that way. To others, Owen is successful and brilliant. But in Owen’s own mind, he’s just in a permanently awkward place. Then he meets Brooke Matthews.

Brooke is outgoing, beautiful, and an artist. She meets Owen at the urging of her uncle, who is a colleague, and friend, of Owen’s. One thing that I found fascinating about Brooke is that while Owen wouldn’t guess it, she feels just as awkward as he does. But for different reasons. Brooke has grown up in a world of beauty pageants, while her brother is treated as the “smart one”. So Brooke is immediately intimidated by Owen, because she feels like she isn’t smart enough.

This parallel worked for me because I think we’re all awkward. Everyone can’t be good at everything and Owen and Brooke show that, but they also do compliment each other. Another facet of their relationship that I enjoyed was seeing Brooke open up to Owen. And I mean truly open up. Not in a superficial way, or just pulling each other out of their shell. I really can’t explain it in words but it worked for me and I really found myself loving this couple.

I would definitely recommend this book. Seeing Owen finally get his story told was so satisfying for me, as a reader. Even if you aren’t familiar with the series, Owen and Brooke are a couple that will have you believing that true love isn’t only in the stars.
