Crank by Adriana Locke

Crank by Adriana Locke

This is one mistake Sienna Landry can’t buy her way out of.

As Walker Gibson looks at her, then at the damage to his precious truck (that she may or may not have accidentally inflicted), she knows she’s in trouble. It’s not the busted headlight and dented grill that’s sunk her though. It’s the downright sinful man in front of her that’s the problem.

The small town mechanic is broody. Rough. Smells like engine grease and gasoline and Sienna isn’t sure why that’s so sexy, but it is. It so is. She’s ready to peel off her panties at the drop of his wrench.

He wants her too. She can feel it when he brushes against her. Experience it as he presses her against the wall of the shop. It’s thinly veiled in his deep, brown eyes when he looks at her like she’s everything he’s ever wanted. So why won’t he give in?

The damage to Walker’s truck is the first of many mistakes between the two of them, ending with truths that rock Sienna’s world. Nothing can fix her broken heart except the love of a man that won’t, maybe even can’t, love her back.

Crank is a standalone romance in a new small town, blue-collar series from USA Today bestselling author Adriana Locke. Join readers everywhere as they fall in love with the delicious Gibson Boys.

Okay, I’m going to cut to the chase and tell you I loved this book. If you just want to know if I loved it or not, know I loved it and thought this is one of best pieces of work from Adriana Locke.

Now let’s talk about the why. One of the biggest reasons that this book, and specifically Sienna Landry, spoke to me was the depth of her character. If you’ve read the Landry series, one thing you remember is that Sienna has wanted independence from her family for awhile. She doesn’t want to be estranged or anything drastic, but Sienna wants to live her life, and be her own person. She doesn’t want to be in the shadow of her last name. This aspect comes through so strongly in scenes where she specifically says this, but her behavior throughout the book echos her character’s actual desires. The Sienna Landry that we see in the Landry series is the same Sienna Landry we get here.

When Walker and Sienna first meet, Sienna gets herself into a mess after swinging a bat into Walker’s truck. At one point, Sienna tells Walker that she is a woman of her word, and she truly is. You can rely on Sienna Landry.

Walker Gibson has issues. Some small, some big. The author presents Walker in a unique way and I appreciate that. We see some flashes of his past and you start to understand why he’s so skittish. Again, I enjoy that these characters and their individual stories have a lot of depth and it’s clear that the author let everyone develop fully.

This story is the start of the Gibson Brothers Series and I loved the slivers of the other brothers that we get to see. It’s enough to definitely make me want the other stories and get a small inkling of what might be coming. I liked this as a reader but I also thought it was a smart move on the author’s part too. This series is set in a small town in Illinois and the author nailed it. The way the small town is portrayed, the seasons, the pop vs soda issue (it’s always pop, obviously). The detail that the author chose to pay attention to and incorporate is priceless.

If you’ve never read this author before, then you can read this book and know you are getting an amazing piece of her work. If you’re already a fan of Adriana Locke, I can confidently say you will love this story. The depth, the story itself, the details; all are fantastic and make this story a must-read for me.

The Ghostwriter by Alessandra Torre

The Ghostwriter by Alessanda Torre

From New York Times Bestseller Alessandra Torre…

I have three months to write the last book of my life. Three months to confess the details of that day, and how it changed everything for me.

My name is Helena Ross. I’ve written fifteen romance novels, ten of which have become international bestsellers. But this one isn’t a romance, no Happily Ever After in place. This novel holds only the truth, which I have run away from for four years. The truth, which I have hidden from the police, from my loved ones, from the world.

This final book?

It’s my confession.

I just finished this story and I am speechless. I want to say everything and nothing. This story is unlike anything I’ve read before and yet I loved every page. This book is haunting and healing all at the same time.

Helena Ross is, putting it nicely, quirky. When I read her character, I kept thinking of that phrase “zoom out”, because Helena would get so caught up in the details, the little nitpicking of being “right”, that she would miss what was actually happening. She has rules for everything and everyone. As a reader, you find yourself wondering if she might have some type of mental illness or if she’s just a misunderstood genius.

This book isn’t a romance, and it’s not a mystery either. I feel like I would classify it as nonfiction. I don’t even feel like that’s a worthy category either, for a book that pulled out so much emotion from me, and from our characters. Part of me wants to say this story starts out, very briefly, with a happily ever after in the past, and then the story reveals the real truth behind that “love” story.

Helena Ross has terminal cancer and only three months to live. She’s trying to get out her last book, her truth, before she dies. But for someone who normally takes a year to write a book, she needs help. Enter in her ghostwriter.

One factor I enjoyed was that Helena and her ghostwriter actually work together, much to Helena’s disappointment. I appreciated that the author took their partnership that direction because I think when I hear the term “ghostwriter”, I just think of someone else doing the work while someone else is fine being the face of the work. So to see this as a collaboration was unique and I enjoyed it.

Helena’s story goes from her rigidity to watching her progress through her illness to watching her heart open up. The way the author shared these extremely personal and intimate moments in Helena’s life was flawless. I aligned with Helena intensely and while she could be harsh, she also was strong in her convictions. Of course, her character makes mistakes but you realize those are part of her personality.

I loved this book. This is the kind of story that you order in paperback and highlight your heart out because there are so many scenes that will resonate with you. I can confidently say this book is one I will remember and it goes down as one of the best stories I have ever had the honor of reading.

beautiful couple lying together on the bed
Wow. Just wow. If I didn’t already love K. Bromberg, this duet would have pushed me to the dark side. This author deserves a standing ovation for the conclusion of Easton and Scout’s love story.
“The Player” ,which is book one, left readers hanging by a thread and “The Catch” does not disappoint. Scout and Easton are pushed to the brink over and over. One of my favorite aspects of this love story is that Scout and Easton really do go through hell. The different situations they end up in are insanity, but through it all, they have each other.
The synopsis hints at Easton’s secret. I won’t get into it further than this: I did NOT expect it at all. And I can’t say how much I appreciated that the author took it where she did. My mind was leading me in several different direction, based on the synopsis, and I couldn’t have been more wrong. I usually can guess and I love when an author forces me to be wrong (keeps me on my toes!)
One of my favorite parts of this story is the baseball itself. Easton and Scout both understand “the magic”. As someone who loves baseball, I also get “the magic” and I loved the author conveyed the experience that one gets on a baseball field. There is a certain magic that engulfs you when you enter the gates. The smells, the players, the sun, the sounds. It’s just an experience that is unforgettable.
This review will be short, only because I refuse to ruin this story for another reader. But trust me that you need to see what happens to Easton and Scout. The emotion and angst in this book filled my heart as I read and I found myself laughing to nearly sobbing at points. An incredible finale for an incredible couple.

Bad Penny, an all-new romantic comedy standalone from Staci Hart is now LIVE!

Nothing good comes after the third date.

See, date three is the crucial point when things get real, which is exactly why I bounce out the door, twiddling my fingers at whatever poor boy I’ve left behind. Because if I stick around, one of three things will happen: he’ll profess his undying love, he gets weird and stalky, or I’ll go crazy. Like, Sid and Nancy crazy. Like, chase-him-through-the-streets-begging-him-to-love-me crazy.

Seriously, it’s better for everyone this way.

So when I meet Bodie, I figure it’ll be the same as it ever was. It doesn’t matter that he doesn’t put a single string on me. Doesn’t matter that he’s funny and smart and jacked and can play my body like a grand piano. Because even though I’m built for love, love has only carved me up like a Christmas ham.

Resistance is something I can only hang on to for so long, and he has persistence in spades. But my heart isn’t as safe as I want to believe, and neither is his. And the second I ignore my cardinal rule is the second I stand to lose him forever.

About the Author

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life — a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can’t forget that. She’s also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She’s been a wife, though she’s certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She’s also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she’s been drinking whiskey.

From roots in Houston to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she’s not writing, she’s reading, sleeping, gaming, or designing graphics.

Billionaire Unknown by JS Scott

Billionaire Unknown – Author J.S. Scott
I was perfectly content with my life. My career was
booming. I traveled. I did as much charity work as I possibly could for
the homeless, and I was perfectly happy with the choices I’d made.
At least…I was–until my sister, Dani, came up missing. As an
international correspondent, she traveled to war-torn countries, and
she’d stepped a little too far over the line. With my sibling kidnapped
and running out of time, I had no option except to approach Marcus
Colter for help.
Seeing Marcus again after having him break my
heart over a decade ago wasn’t easy, but to my relief, the old feelings I
thought I might still harbor for him were completely gone. He was like a
stranger to me. After meeting with him, my only emotion was gratitude
that he was going to try to rescue my sister.
Before I could
relax about feeling nothing for Marcus, I met Blake Colter, and realized
every emotion I thought I’d have for Marcus was suddenly present for
the gorgeous US senator.
It was ridiculous. I hadn’t seen Blake since we were kids.
How could I have given myself to Marcus so many years ago, yet have these feelings for his twin brother, Blake?
The more time I spent with Blake, waiting for my sister to be rescued, the more confused I became about my attraction to him.
Then, my entire world came crashing down when I found out that
everything I thought was true for over a decade wasn’t the truth at all.
What happens when a woman finds out that a man she’d both loved and hated for over a decade never really existed at all?
