The Alexa Series by T.R. Cupak

Alexa Crushed by TR Cupak

Alexa Morgan lost her mother when she was two. At eighteen, her father and stepmother died when a devastating earthquake hit the Bay Area. Only one person has remained a constant in her life: Devin.

Devin has been Alexa’s best friend since childhood. The two are inseparable—or they were until Devin declared his love for her at sixteen. When Alexa can offer him only friendship in return, Devin retreats, brokenhearted.

Alexa, on the other hand, longs for Ethan, the boy next door. Four years older than her, and with an ever-changing roster of girlfriends, Ethan is everything Devin isn’t: wild, sensual, and unpredictable.

In the aftermath of the deadly earthquake, Ethan makes his move on Alexa, who reciprocates in a confused whirl of grief and desire. When Ethan leaves town the next day, Devin comes back into Alexa’s life, offering support and expecting nothing in return.

Alexa begins to see the advantages of Devin’s quiet, stable love. Can she get past the friendship hang-up while trying to forget bad boy Ethan? It’s a choice that changes her life forever.

Alexa Loved by TR Cupak

After her parents died during her senior year of high school, Alexa Morgan is completely alone in the world—except for her best-friend-turned-boyfriend Devin, identical twins Becca and Jessa, and Sebastian, a mysterious associate of her father’s.

Upon graduation, Alexa wants nothing more than to move on with her life, go to college, and forget all the hard and hurtful things from her tragic past. But when her first love, Ethan, shows up on her doorstep—the night before she’s supposed to meet Devin in Miami—it kicks off a whirlwind of events that threatens the good and stable things she’s worked so hard to achieve.

Ethan and Alexa shared one night of passion before he disappeared, leaving her bewildered and confused. But now he’s back, declaring that he loves her and that the only reason he left was to protect her from his malicious stepmother, Olivia.

In her heart, Alexa knows she loves Devin, but her attraction to Ethan is so strong she can’t help but be drawn in by their shared chemistry. Meanwhile, the threat of Olivia lurks around the edges, casting a menacing shadow over everything and everyone Alexa loves.

It’s double review time over on the blog! I was contacted by the very kind TR Cupak and asked if I was interested in reviewing her Alexa series. I was definitely happy to do so. Before I even knew she was an author, I actually had the chance to meet the author and she is beyond kind. So if you get to meet her, take the opportunity to do so!

Let me start by being entirely honest and saying I didn’t necessarily love the start of the story. Its necessary for the reader to see, but it just wasn’t one of my favorite parts. I want to state that up front because there was a part of me that just wanted to stop. But I kept reading and it was worth it. The reason the beginning was just a little off for me was that I kept getting distracted by the timeline.

We see Alexa moving to her new neighborhood and meeting Devin as a little girl. But then when she later moves, she and Devin can skype, text, and use facebook. Then as time goes on, things are still really the same. Maybe I was getting too engrossed in that but then I kept wondering what time frame we were in. I think the characters moved forward but other things stayed constant. This led me to keep thinking I missed something.

When the story really gets moving though, that is when this author shines. If I’m being entirely fair, I’d love to see this author really do more suspense because when the story kept moving and different people were moving in and out, I enjoyed the story a lot and really could feel the author’s passion for the story come through.

My opinions on the second book, Alexa Loved, are really scattered. I had so much respect for a newer author taking risks with her characters and pushing the reader into areas that we probably don’t want to venture into. Alexa hasn’t had a bad life but her life has certainly had many terrible moments in it. I admired that her character, in particular, is thrown into so many situations. We see Alexa with the love of her family, then we see her growing into a woman, and then we see her as an adult and dealing with adult situations. It was a great evolution of her character.

I won’t say more about the second book other than it is a major rollercoaster. A rollercoaster you want to ride. Some of the twists and turns in this book totally threw me off because I was not expecting it. Again, this made me have a lot of respect for the author.

I would definitely recommend this series and author. In particular, if you love New Adult series with some twists, you will really enjoy Alexa, Devin, and Ethan. I have always loved reading new authors because I truly do enjoy seeing them evolve as writers. Seeing this writer evolve in two books was so awesome to read and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with in the future.

Sweet Rivalry by K. Bromberg

Amazon UK:

Ryder Rodgers had a plan.

He was going to stride into the conference room, do the required song and dance over the next five days, and win the biggest contract of his career. But when he walked in and heard the voice of one of his competitors, all his plans were shot to hell.

Harper Denton. She was always on top. In college. First in their class. Always using every advantage to edge him out to win the coveted positions. The only one who could beat him. His academic rival. More like a constant thorn in his side. And his ego’s.

When he heard her voice, he was brought back to years before. To the bitter taste of being second best. But the woman who meets his gaze is nothing like the drab wallflower he used to know. Hell no. She was all woman now: curves, confidence, and staggering sex appeal. And no doubt, still brilliant.

The fact that she’s gorgeous and bright won’t distract him. This time, Ryder’s determined to be the one on top. But not if Harper can help it.

shirtless tattoed man on white looking down

Whew! I just finished “Sweet Rivalry” and I won’t even lie: I am still cooling off from the sexual tension between Ryder and Harper.

Harper and Ryder have known each other for a long time. They spent a good portion of that long time just picking at each other until they parted ways after college. Imagine  their shock when they run into each other while try to get the winning bid for a secret project.

I really loved this novella. As with all novellas, I didn’t want it to end. However, I loved how it ended.

One thing that really stood out to me with this story was how Harper was so aware of herself. She was very aware that was seen differently (she was the only woman in this competition), and she was also aware of how she would be perceived by others. Harper’s character isn’t just making it by. Yes, she’s in a position where she wants to win, but I think Harper would want to also win the award for just about anything. She’s strong, competitive, and highly intelligent.

One facet I loved about both Harper and Ryder, but it showed more with Ryder, was the arrogance at times. I think any time you are in a sales position, or a public speaking role where you are trying to sway someone to your way of thinking, you need to have a certain amount of arrogance. Ryder doesn’t necessarily brag but he’s aware of his competition and how they operate. He knows where his strengths lie in relation to the other challengers.

This story was just fantastic. I enjoyed every minute of it. The characters really take a hold of the reader and you are rooting for them, feeling disappointed with them, and ultimately happy that they reconnected. I would recommend this book for anyone who already loves the 1001 Dark Night novellas, any K.Bromberg fans, and anyone who has time for a quick, but incredibly steamy, reading break.

New York Times Bestselling author K. Bromberg writes contemporary novels that contain a mixture of sweet, emotional, a whole lot of sexy, and a little bit of real. She likes to write strong heroines, and damaged heroes who we love to hate and hate to love.

She’s a mixture of most of her female characters: sassy, intelligent, stubborn, reserved, outgoing, driven, emotional, strong, and wears her heart on her sleeve. All of which she displays daily with her husband and three children where they live in Southern California.

On a whim, K. Bromberg decided to try her hand at this writing thing. Since then she has written The Driven Series (Driven, Fueled, Crashed, Raced, Aced), the standalone Driven Novels (Slow Burn, Sweet Ache, Hard Beat, and Down Shift), and a novella (UnRaveled). She is currently finishing up Sweet Cheeks a standalone novel out November 14th.

Her plans for 2017 include a sports romance duet (2 books: The Player, The Catch) and the Everyday Heroes series (3 books: Cuffed, Combust, and Cockpit). She’s also writing a novella for the 1,001 Dark Night series that will be out in February 2017.

She loves to hear from her readers so make sure you check her out on social media.

Egomaniac by Vi Keeland

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000038_00072]

The night I met Drew Jagger, he’d just broken into my new Park Avenue office.
I dialed 9-1-1 before proceeding to attack him with my fancy new Krav Maga skills.
He quickly restrained me, then chuckled, finding my attempted assault amusing.

Of course, my intruder had to be arrogant.
Only, turned out, he wasn’t an intruder at all.

Drew was the rightful occupant of my new office. He’d been on vacation while his posh space was renovated.
Which was how a scammer got away with leasing me office space that wasn’t really available for rent.
I was swindled out of ten grand.

The next day, after hours at the police station, Drew took pity on me and made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. In exchange for answering his phones while his secretary was out, he’d let me stay until I found a new place.
I probably should have acted grateful and kept my mouth shut when I overheard the advice he was spewing to his clients. But I couldn’t help giving him a piece of my mind.
I never expected my body to react every time we argued. Especially when that was all we seemed to be able to do.

The two of us were complete opposites. Drew was a bitter, angry, gorgeous-as-all-hell, destroyer of relationships. And my job was to help people save their marriages.
The only thing the two of us had in common was the space we were sharing.
And an attraction that was getting harder to deny by the day.

Bend by Molly McLain

Bend by Molly McLain

The Hardass

Focused and in control at all times. Most people think I’m a prick–and I’ll be the first to admit that’s probably true. But I’d rather be a take-no-shit cop than the kind of man genetics says I should be. You break the law, you pay the price. I don’t give a damn if you’re the captain’s daughter or the Queen of friggin’ England.

The Princess

I have no patience for the cocky men my father oversees. Or maybe it’s just Sergeant Hardass who gets under my skin. Not only is he sexy as sin, he refuses to cut me a break. And now I have to work with the arrogant jerk.

I shouldn’t want him, but a secret part of me craves his unforgiving edge. He could give me everything I need, but, first, I have to break down his walls.

I have to make him bend.

Oh my gosh…I am absolutely LOVING this book. I am fairly certain that if I didn’t take breaks while reading, my kindle would have honestly exploded from heat this story packs.

Let me start by saying one of my favorite aspects of this book is that we take the concept of the hot male cop to a whole new level. We’ve seen the protective, sexy cop, but Sergeant Trent Clark takes it to a whole other level. Holy smokes!

Then we have Kinsey Malloy, the daughter of the captain. Kinsey is not what you expect in the heroine at all. She is hard-headed, strong, and intelligent. The reason I liked this juxtaposition was because a lot of times, we see the cop protecting the more meek female character. In this case, Kinsey has a lot of personality and she is not afraid to be bold. She just doesn’t always choose to show it.

For me, Kinsey was really the star of this book. The way she is throwing Trent for a loop was really one of my favorite parts of the story. Trent has always been attracted to Kinsey, but he stereotyped her into this prim and proper woman. When the reality is so far from that.

This book is only 154 pages long, according to Amazon. The reason I mention this fact is that even though the story is a bit shorter, Molly McLain manages to keep this story moving quickly. This story has complexities to it, but I never felt like anything was left unfinished.

I would absolutely recommend this book. The author has crafted a fast-paced, yet complex story about two people who come together in a way that seems normal, but is unlike other stories I’ve read. The sex scenes in this story are smoldering hot and I cannot wait for the next book in the Vegas Heat Series.

Swing by Adriana Locke

Screw him and his perfect stats.

Sinful smirk.

Delicious body.

Lincoln Landry probably even has game-winning stamina.

I’d like to screw her and her perfect ass.

Dangerous curves.

Sweet smile.

Danielle Ashley probably even has a game-changing personality.

There’s no denying the chemistry between them. It’s so fiery, it’s undeniable. They partake in it. Enjoy it.

They really enjoy it.

Attraction is not a problem. Nor is their banter, relationship status, or habits. That’s all fine. Perfect, actually.

The problem is as tangled up as their sheets.

It’s a Swing and a GRAND SLAM!!!!

I’d say its common knowledge that I love Adriana Locke and her writing. But this book was a homerun, pun fully intended.

I finished this book and found myself beaming at Linc and Dani’s love story. It was perfection.

I’m going to list a few of my favorite aspects of this book, but just know that I really loved the whole book. My review would be pages and pages long if I listed everything I liked. The first thing I really enjoyed was that Linc and Dani are really on the same page. I think sometimes, we see the guy with this incredible lust and desire for the woman, but we don’t always see the woman reciprocate that as carnally. Dani has no problem voicing her physical desires for Linc. Its not taboo, or uncomfortable for her. When Linc admires Dani, it was really easy for me to see why he was so attracted to her.

Lincoln is a really phenomenal character. I loved seeing him in a more introspective light. He’s at this pivotal point in his life where things are changing, and he’s seeing things differently. I think a lot of people go through that and I enjoyed seeing his journey through that. The best part for me is that he was already there. Meeting Dani, and falling for her, didn’t push him to that point.

Another facet that I loved is the incorporation of characters from other books, and even series, being subtly tied in. We obviously get to see Barrett, Ali, and Huxley (and the rest of the Landry family), but we also see tiny glimpses of the Gentry extended family, and Stone Lockhart from “Stoned” by Mandi Beck, and Johnny Outlaw from the Hard To Resist series by S.L. Scott. The reason I love these tie-ins is because its so subtle. Its a great treat to the reader who has read these books and knows these characters. But if you hadn’t read those other books, you wouldn’t know any different.

I truly cannot say enough about how much I enjoyed this book. When I finished, I was absolutely beaming because I was just so happy with the story. Adriana Locke gets better with each story she churns out.

I think the saying goes “never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game.” There are no strike outs in this book, only homeruns.

The Spire by Kate Canterbary

She holds everyone—even her siblings—at a mile-long distance. It’s the only way to protect herself.

But she can’t protect herself from him.

He’s the ice to her fire, and he’s willing to sacrifice everything to bring her home.

Google Play:

I gave her a little shove, and she fell to the mattress. She aimed a meaningful glance at my jeans, and that was all the encouragement I needed to drop them to the ground. She crawled backward, and I followed, stalking her every movement until we were flat against a bank of pillows.

“Hi,” she said, running her hand up my flank and over my shoulder. She hooked her leg around my waist and pulled me flush against her. My cock was acutely aware that only my boxers and her panties separated us, and was alternately thrilled with that situation and impatient as hell. She smiled, a little shy. “I like the way you touch me.”

“That’s good because I really enjoy touching you,” I said, bringing my lips to her neck and trailing them down between her breasts. “I didn’t want to let you go when I met you last night. Wanted to keep you all to myself.”

“Oh,” she said, her eyebrow quirking as if this was an peculiar sentiment. “I don’t think anyone’s ever wanted to keep me before.”

Fuck, she was too much. Just too much. Beautiful and rough around every edge yet vulnerable and sensitive.

“I want to keep you,” I said, sliding my fingers behind her back to unclasp her bra. “I’ll keep you as long as you let me, lovely.” Her arms moved to her chest the minute her bra went flying over my shoulder. That vulnerability? There it was again. “And I want to see you, too.”

A groan was rumbling past my lips the second her arms went around my neck and she was bared to me. I thought her tits were a crime in that t-shirt, but I had no idea. They were full and pale, and delicious. I licked and sucked as if I was trying to consume her, and maybe I was.

“Say something,” she whispered, her fingers raking through my hair. “I want…I want to know what you’re thinking.”

I released her nipple with a satisfied groan, and then dropped kisses on each of her breasts before finding her eyes. “I’m thinking get me inside you right now.”

Our lips met as my fingers inched her panties over her hips. I could take her just like this, face-to-face while I tasted her hungry hums, and I’d want for nothing.

“You probably thought I’d be crazy in bed,” she said, her words muffled as she spoke against my neck. “Like, I don’t know, adventurous and kinky. Like, I keep nipple clamps in my back pocket and actually prefer wearing thongs, and I’m always down for anal. And it’s my fault, really. This whole night has been pretty wild, and I kissed you like a maniac and then everything on the boat, and it wouldn’t be wrong to think that tequila on my tits is an average Saturday morning but—”

“It only matters what you want,” I said, tipping up her chin. “Don’t worry about what I think, or what you think I’m thinking. Tell me what you want.”

Erin’s fingers clawed at my boxers, and together we got them over my hips and out of the way. Her panties were long gone and my cock was in love with the wet heat between her legs.

“Please don’t make it hurt,” she whispered.

I shook my head and dropped a kiss on her forehead. “Never.”

Kate Canterbary doesn’t have it all figured out, but this is what she knows for sure: spicy-ass salsa and tequila solve most problems, living on the ocean–Pacific or Atlantic–is the closest place to perfection, and writing smart, smutty stories is a better than any amount of chocolate. She started out reporting for an indie arts and entertainment newspaper back when people still read newspapers, and she has been writing and surreptitiously interviewing people–be careful sitting down next to her on an airplane–ever since. Kate lives on the water in New England with Mr. Canterbary and the Little Baby Canterbary, and when she isn’t writing sexy architects, she’s scheduling her days around the region’s best food trucks.

So I have to apologize in advance. This review is going to be very vague. The reason being that I do not want to inadvertently give away a spoiler. And this book will reveal secrets about other characters that I know you won’t see coming.

I am beyond impressed with Kate Canterbary and the level of detail in this book. Erin Walsh is extremely intelligent. I love how Erin is smart, but is still a real person. When she’s opening up to Dr. Luke Acevedo, I could feel their connection immediately. So many books talk about the characters having a spark, but with these characters, I felt like I could feel not only the physical spark, but the mental one too.

Even as things are going somewhat well with Erin and Nick, there is always an overture of tension. I thought this was balanced out really well. You can still enjoy the story, but you know you’re going to get hit with something you aren’t expecting.

When Erin and Nick are initially getting close, its fascinating to watch them. Nick is trying to get to know Erin better and even though she’s incredibly fact-based, she can’t deny her feelings either. I thought the way the story is written, in terms of how everything progresses, was absolute perfection.

I refuse to say more. I feel like nothing I will say can do this story, or series, justice. But I can tell you that I would absolutely recommend this book and series. The thought and precision that is delivered here is astounding. I admit I am newer to Kate Canterbary but I can see why readers love her so much.

Hit The Spot (Dirty Deeds #2) by J. Daniels

Is this love or just a game?

Tori Rivera thinks Jamie McCade is rude, arrogant, and worst of all . . . the sexiest man she’s ever laid eyes on. His reputation as a player is almost as legendary as his surfing skills. No matter how her body heats up when he’s around, she’s determined not to be another meaningless hookup.

Jamie McCade always gets what he wants. The sickest wave. The hottest women. And Tori, with her long legs and smart mouth, is definitely the hottest one. He knows Tori wants him-hell, most women do-but she won’t admit it. After months of chasing and one unforgettable kiss, it’s time for Jamie to raise the stakes.

Jamie promises that soon Tori won’t just want him in her bed, she’ll be begging for it-and he might be right. Somehow he’s found the spot in her heart that makes her open up like never before. But with all she knows about his past, can she really trust what’s happening between them? Is Jamie playing for keeps or just playing to win?

This book can be read as a stand-alone.
Book 1–Four Letter Word

If you’re like me, you’ve probably been dying to read Tori and Jamie’s story. When I first read “Four Letter Word”, which was Sydney and Brian’s story, I knew that I need more Tori and Jamie. The author, J.Daniels, did not disappoint me.

From the very beginning of this book, I was instantly transported back to Whitecaps (the restaurant where Tori works at). One thing I really marveled at with this story was how it was like no time passed at all. I say this because even though a few months has passed in real time, I felt like I was right back at the restaurant with this group of characters. The same quirks they have, their attitudes, their language…the author did not miss a beat with this story. I was sincerely impressed.

Tori and Jamie have this very intense chemistry. I know that as readers, we hear a lot about explosive chemistry and fireworks and whatnot. But these two truly have that. As I read, I could feel their energy zipping around me as I got further and further into the book.  I found myself laughing, blushing, and getting worked up right with them.

Every book I read by this author, I never think she can top the sex scenes. And yet, she always does. Jamie has one dirty mouth and Tori is beyond sassy right back to him. These two could possibly light a kindle on fire. (Maybe mine was smoking because I was gripping so hard, who knows?)

I truly did love that these two got their own story. In “Four Letter Word”, we see both characters but in this story, you really start to see their backstory. One thing that shocked me was how Jamie has been trying to get with Tori for way longer than I realized. Its hard not to think of Jamie as a player, or expecting the other shoe to drop with him. But then you get to know him better, your viewpoint of him starts to change.

For me, I feel Jamie and Tori have just the right amount of push and pull going on. I think the reason it works so well is because it makes sense for their characters. They both are stubborn and prideful. Both of them can be total stinkers when it comes to playing the game.

I absolutely loved this book. I wish I could think of all the exciting words to express how awesome this book and series is, but I’d totally fail. I cannot recommend it enough. J.Daniels balances out her characters flawlessly and truly transports the reader into the story.
